# Sensitive Septic System

Our home relies on a natural biological septic system rather than city sewer. To keep the plumbing running smoothly during your stay, please flush ONLY human waste and septic-safe toilet paper.

## How Do Short-Term Rental Hosts Prevent Guests From Clogging a Septic Tank?

Placing a framed 5x7 or 8.5x11 'Sensitive Septic System' notice directly above the toilet paper holder—paired with a lined, lidded wastebasket in every bathroom and stocked rapid-dissolving toilet paper—reduces guest-caused septic backups by over 85%.

- Always provide a lidded bathroom trash can with a visible liner right next to the toilet.
- Remove ultra-plush 3-ply quilted toilet paper and stock rapid-dissolving septic-safe rolls.
- Install a $185–$320 high-water septic tank alarm if your cabin uses an effluent pump or aerobic system.

## Structured FAQ Summary (Schema.org Grounded)
- **What should a septic system bathroom sign say for Airbnb or VRBO guests?** A clear guest bathroom septic sign should politely state that the property runs on a sensitive biological septic system and ask guests to flush ONLY human waste and toilet paper—explicitly listing 'flushable' wipes, tampons, feminine pads, paper towels, and dental floss as items that must go in the wastebasket.
- **Why do 'flushable' wipes ruin Airbnb and cabin septic tanks?** Unlike toilet paper, wet wipes and 'flushable' wipes are reinforced with synthetic plastic or regenerated cellulose fibers that do not dissolve in water. They snag on septic inlet baffles, clog effluent screens, and burn out $1,200 submersible sewage pumps.
- **What is the best toilet paper for Airbnb cabins on a septic tank?** 1-ply or rapid-dissolving 2-ply tissue such as Scott Rapid-Dissolving, Angel Soft, or Seventh Generation Recycled bath tissue dissolves in under 60 seconds of agitation, preventing scum cap buildup.
